Celebrity Salad Privacy Policy

Who we are

Celebrity Salad is operated in the United Kingdom and is the controller of personal information processed by us in connection with the Celebrity Salad app and website.

Celebrity Salad is designed to collect as little information as reasonably possible. The app does not require an account, profile or login, and we do not sell personal information.

App and game data

Celebrity Salad needs some information to run the game on your device. Depending on how you play, this can include player names, team names, celebrity names submitted by players, game settings, round order, turn information, scores and the current game state.

This gameplay content is handled locally on your device and is not sent to PostHog or to a Celebrity Salad server. There is no Celebrity Salad account, remote multiplayer service or cloud synchronisation in the current release.

You control the names you enter. Player names do not need to be real names. If you enter information about another person, you should only enter information appropriate for an in-person party game.

Product analytics and error tracking in the app

Celebrity Salad uses PostHog to help us understand how the app is used, identify crashes and software errors, and improve the product. PostHog is configured to use its European cloud infrastructure.

We send a deliberately limited set of machine-readable product and diagnostic information. This can include app version and build number, iPhone or iPad device class, release channel, game setup counts, round and turn counts, whether a game is completed or ended early, replay choice, Undo usage, How to Play or Salad Bar usage, and technical crash or error information.

We do not intentionally send player names, team names, celebrity names, celebrity submissions, email addresses, contacts, precise location, advertising identifiers or arbitrary free text to PostHog. The app does not call PostHog identify, person profiles are disabled, and session replay, screen recording and automatic interaction capture are disabled.

PostHog may use a randomly generated anonymous identifier and standard technical information to distinguish app installations or sessions. We do not use this to determine your real-world identity. App analytics is not used for third-party advertising or cross-app tracking.

Device permissions

The current version of Celebrity Salad does not require access to your contacts, precise location, photos, camera, microphone, health information or other protected device data for its core game.

If a future feature needs a protected Apple system permission, the app will request it through Apple's permission controls when required, and this policy will be updated where necessary.

Apple services, purchases and diagnostics

Celebrity Salad is distributed through Apple's App Store. Apple may process information connected with downloading, installing and using apps in accordance with Apple's own privacy practices and your Apple account and device settings.

Celebrity Salad offers optional in-app purchases, such as additional celebrity packs. Purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store using StoreKit. Celebrity Salad does not collect or store your payment card or billing details.

The app may receive information from Apple about the status of a purchase, such as whether a product has been purchased, is pending, cancelled or restored, so that purchased content can be made available to you. The app may also query your current StoreKit entitlements to restore access to content you already own. Payment processing and App Store transaction records are handled by Apple in accordance with Apple's privacy practices.

Apple may also make crash or diagnostic information available to developers when users have enabled the relevant analytics sharing settings. This can include technical information such as the app version, operating-system version, device type and crash details. We use any diagnostic information made available to us only to investigate reliability and software problems.

Website analytics, hosting and cookies

The Celebrity Salad website uses Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to help us understand how the website is used. Google Analytics may process pages viewed, visits and session activity, approximate geographic information, browser and device information, referring source, website interactions and a pseudonymous browser identifier stored using first-party cookies.

Google Analytics is optional and remains disabled unless you choose “Accept analytics” in the website's cookie controls. Rejecting analytics does not affect your ability to use the website.

If you accept, we use this information to understand website traffic and improve the site. We do not intentionally send names, email addresses or gameplay content to Google Analytics, and advertising-related Google signals and personalised-advertising signals are disabled.

You can change your choice at any time using the Cookie settings control in the website footer. If you withdraw consent, Google Analytics is disabled and we attempt to remove analytics cookies set for this site. Your consent choice itself is stored locally in your browser so that the site can remember it.

Our website hosting and security providers may also process standard technical information necessary to deliver and protect the site, such as your IP address, browser or device information, pages requested, date and time of requests, and security or server logs. This information is used to operate, secure and maintain the website.

Support and feedback

If you contact us by email, we may receive your email address, your name if you provide it, the contents of your message and any information or attachments you choose to include.

We use this information to respond to you, investigate problems, provide support and improve Celebrity Salad. Please avoid including sensitive personal information unless it is genuinely needed for us to deal with your request.

Our lawful bases

Where UK GDPR or EU GDPR applies, we process personal information only where we have an appropriate lawful basis.

Providing a requested service: where processing is necessary to respond to a support request or provide something you have asked us to provide.
Providing purchased content: where StoreKit transaction or entitlement information is necessary to provide, verify or restore content you have purchased through Apple.
App analytics, diagnostics and improvement: where the limited anonymous or pseudonymous information we process through PostHog constitutes personal information, we rely on our legitimate interests in understanding product usage, maintaining reliability, identifying technical problems and improving Celebrity Salad. We minimise the privacy impact by excluding gameplay text and unnecessary personal information.
Website analytics: where consent is required for Google Analytics cookies or similar technologies, we rely on your consent. You can withdraw that consent through the website's Cookie settings control.
Operating and securing the website: we rely on our legitimate interests in operating, maintaining, securing and preventing abuse of the website.
Legal obligations: where we need to keep or disclose information to comply with applicable law.

Gameplay information that remains only on your device is not received or processed by us.

International transfers

Some service providers, or their subprocessors, may process information outside the United Kingdom or European Economic Area. Where data-protection law requires safeguards for an international transfer, we rely on an appropriate permitted mechanism such as an adequacy decision or approved contractual safeguards.

How long we keep information

Game information: the app keeps gameplay information locally on your device rather than sending it to us. You can clear the current game by starting a new Salad, and removing the app removes app data held by the app from that device, subject to Apple's platform behaviour.

Purchase information: Celebrity Salad does not receive or retain your payment card details. Apple retains App Store transaction records in accordance with its own policies. The app may store or query entitlement status as needed to make purchased packs available and restore access to content you own.

App analytics and diagnostics: PostHog analytics and diagnostic information is retained in accordance with our PostHog project configuration and only for as long as reasonably needed to understand usage, investigate reliability and improve the product.

Website analytics: where you consent to Google Analytics, analytics information and associated identifiers are retained in accordance with our Google Analytics configuration. Your local cookie preference remains in your browser until you change it, clear browser storage or the browser removes it.

Website technical logs: hosting and security logs may be retained by our providers for limited periods needed for security, reliability and abuse prevention.

Support correspondence: we keep support and feedback messages only for as long as reasonably necessary to respond, investigate the issue, maintain appropriate records or meet legal requirements.

Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live and the circumstances, you may have rights to access, correct or delete personal information we hold about you, restrict or object to certain processing, receive certain information in a portable format, withdraw consent where processing is based on consent, and complain to a data-protection regulator.

You can withdraw or change website analytics consent at any time using Cookie settings in the website footer. Rejecting or withdrawing website analytics does not affect access to the website.

Because Celebrity Salad's gameplay data stays on your own device and is not sent to us, we generally cannot access, retrieve or delete that local gameplay information for you. You control it through the app and your device.

If you are in the United Kingdom, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO). If you are in the European Economic Area, you may have the right to complain to the relevant data-protection authority in your country or region.

Security

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect information processed in connection with Celebrity Salad. No electronic service can be guaranteed to be completely secure. Information held locally by the app is also protected by the security controls available on your Apple device and operating system.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as Celebrity Salad develops, particularly if we introduce features such as cloud sync, remote multiplayer, accounts or materially different analytics technology. Where a change materially affects how we use personal information, we will provide any additional notice or request any permission required by law or platform rules.

The latest version will always be published at this address with an updated “Last updated” date.
